FLOW (The Future of Living for One World) is a transdisciplinary initiative dedicated to advancing sustainable urban development across Africa. It goes beyond “climate-smart” approaches to pioneer Planet-Smart cities and economies — designed to operate within planetary boundaries while improving livelihoods.
By combining art, science, architecture, engineering, and social justice, FLOW seeks to shape equitable and resilient urban futures.
Its work spans:
- Designing Planet-Smart Economic Zones that align industrial growth with ecological regeneration.
- Supporting city-level pilots in 20 African cities — from Nairobi and Kigali to Lagos, Cape Town, and Dakar — to test inclusive models of urban innovation.
- Conducting knowledge exchanges and research linking material science, policy, culture, and design for regenerative cities.
- Developing tools and resources to help policymakers, communities, and businesses build urban systems that foster resilience, equity, and bioeconomic opportunity.
FLOW is not just a think tank — it is a “think-and-do” platform, working across Africa to demonstrate how cities can become hubs of climate action, cultural identity, and sustainable economic growth.
